What Still Haunts You?

Friday, October 29th, 2010

As the costumes come out and the Halloween parties begin, I can’t help but wonder: what still haunts you? I don’t mean all the horror shows and “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. I mean, what unfilled dream in your life haunts you?

What would happen if we didn’t play small? Why not have a bigger life?

Ask yourself what it is you really want in your life. Then listen. Just listen. Get clear on what you want your life to look and feel like. Live from that place and ask for support.

Meditation:
You are the greatest resource for every dream that lives within. You have everything you need to take the next steps, and the next, and the next. Source from love. You are the dream. The dream lives through you. Show the world and live a bigger life.

As you celebrate Halloween, do something that scares you. Do it afraid. As Debbie Ford says, “The world is waiting for you.”

Happy Halloween!

Walking Through Illusion

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I was recently given the book, Walking Through Illusion, written by Betsy Otter Thompson. The book features a series of short stories about biblical people who either knew Jesus or knew of him. The author believes that we don’t take our beliefs with us when we leave here. Rather, we take the love we found from having them.

Each chapter focuses on a specific theme through a conversation with a biblical person. The end of each chapter has a worksheet with questions, which is designed to deepen the conversation and engage the reader in their own personal journey.

This is a book for those of us who have questions about their own faith and beliefs and how beliefs play a part in our faith and life. As Thompson says:

Faith Can’t Be Bought, Bartered, or Begotten.
It Is the Knowledge of Who You Are,
Why You Are Here,
And How to Enjoy That Search.

In the end, the book is about deepening our relationship with ourselves and stepping beyond the illusion of seeking approval. “The greatest achievement you’ll ever reach is to love and accept yourself.”

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to bring more love & insight into their life and heart. Enjoy!

SITUATION HOPELESS STOP NO ONE WEARS SHOES
The other writes back triumphantly,
GLORIOUS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY STOP THEY HAVE NO SHOES

Rosamund Stone Zander and Benjamin Zander, The Art of Possibility

Which kind of ‘scout’ are you? Can you move beyond ‘hopeless’ and into possibility? There is a universe of possibility available!

Forgiveness Brings Peace to All

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

“I want to forgive my father for kicking me out of the house, hating and rejecting me. And I want to forgive myself for believing him.” ~Email from a teenager

How has forgiveness brought peace to your life and your heart?

According to Positive Psychology founder, Martin Seligman, forgiveness can actually increase our overall health and well-being.  As Seligman says, “People who are forgiving have less anger, less depression, less hostility, and are less neurotic and less vengeful. Forgiveness increases your own happiness.”

When asked if he has forgiven China, the Dalai Lama said (paraphrased): “They’ve stolen my land and country. I’m not going to let them steal my mind.”

To deepen your experiences of forgiveness, register for the upcoming 4-week course on radical forgiveness:
Resting in Radical Forgiveness 4-Week Telecourse
In this 4-week telecourse we will deeply examine forgiveness from many points of view. We will see where we are carrying the pain of not forgiving and why it is important to be free. We will spend time looking at the 4 levels of forgiveness.

You will leave the course with a deeper understanding of resting in radical forgiveness and the impact it has on your daily life. Guided meditation/imagery, deep listening, examining world views, and inspired writing are all a part of this course.

Mon., November 1, 8, 15, & 22, 2010. 8:00PM – 9:00PM(EST)
Investment: $99 (Limited to 10 participants).

Remembering

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Waves of emotions have been flooding through me after I heard about my friend, Liliam, passing away on Friday. I had taken coaching classes with Liliam at New York University. In every coaching class, Liliam brought a smile, sense of humor, and joy. She would stand up in class and talk about her pursuit of being a Life Coach. “I want to empower women with my passion and I know I can do it.” Her zest of life and her confidence were contagious. There was never a class where Liliam didn’t make all of us smile with her “passion.”

Liliam also participated in a Toning the OM Radical Rhythm Circle where she helped lead the group in some fun movement. She had all of us laughing and moving our hips in ways they never moved before. Liliam’s love was contagious – may we all pass it on. That is what I remember about my friend. Remembering allows me to keep her in my heart.

What allows each of us to remember the passion within that is always there?

Peace, always.

This is dedicated to Liliam Serje – coach, friend, warrior of joy – you will be missed.

Peace Is Here and Now

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

In their new book, Peace in the Present Moment, Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie remind us that stillness and peace exists in the present moment.

The most import, the primordial relationship in your life is your relationship with the Now, or rather with whatever form the Now takes, that is to say, what is or what happens. If your relationship with the Now is dysfunctional, that dysfunctional will be reflected in every relationship and every situation you encounter. –Eckhart Tolle

I don’t know what’s best for me or you or the world. I don’t try to impose my will on you or on anyone else. I don’t want to change you or improve you or convert you or help you or heal you. I just welcome things as they come and go. That’s true love. The best way of leading people is to let them find their own way. –Byron Katie

Yes, Peace is Now.

What Is Your Emotional Map Revealing to You?

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

While working with a coaching client, she expressed how she was feeling much more freedom in her life. I asked her what had changed that allowed her to feel this freedom.  She had the insight, “Living and coloring outside the lines has allowed me to live the way I want rather than what others want. I started to notice how I was feeling and paying attention to my heart.”

Emotions are often the map to our thoughts. In the Frame of Mind Self-Guided Course, there was an assignment about paying attention to feelings. “Paying attention to how you feel is most important because your feelings are a barometer for the types of thoughts that are dominating your mind. Your thoughts produce your feelings. Do you want to feel differently? If yes, then you need to change your thoughts.” How are you paying attention to your feelings?

As my friend Judy Kinney says, “Are you open to the idea that the condition of your life reflects the quality of your attention?” What are you paying attention to these days?

What is your emotional map revealing to you? What’s dominating your heart lately?

May love be your guide and light show you the way.

What Does Forgiveness Mean?

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Last week I received a response from one of my blogs about Tolerance. A young boy wrote that he was kicked out of his house because his father found out he was gay. He told me how ashamed and scared he felt. But even more powerful was when he said, “I want to forgive my father for hating and rejecting me. And I want to forgive myself for believing him.”

What parts of ourselves have we not forgiven?

If you are interested in expanding your thoughts and experiences about forgiveness, join me for an upcoming Resting in Radical Forgiveness 4-week telecourse (on the phone from the comfort of your own home).

“Human-Kind”

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” ~Lao Tzu

As I was listening to the reports of the tragic suicide of Tyler Clementi, I was saddened by the disregard for basic humanity and dignity. I recently wrote a blog about Tolerance and the cost of intolerance. The tragic wave of suicides among young people who have been targeted because of their sexuality has prompted many news stories. This offers all of us an opportunity to reach out to young people as well as look more deeply at our “us vs. them” mentality.

In his book, Us and Them: Understanding Your Tribal Mind, David Berreby explains why people are wedded to the notion that they belong to differing tribe-like categories. David Berreby describes how each person creates his own mind map, identifies others with similar mind maps and ostracizes all those who are different. Based in solid scientific research, David Berreby exposes new discoveries about the mind and brain. It’s a book about looking at “human-kind” thinking.

What is your “human-kind thinking?”

What’s Your Favorite Joni Mitchell Song?

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

I spent this weekend listening to Joni Mitchell.  There is nothing like Joni Mitchell lyrics to wake you up to what’s happening inside. Listening to her songs reminded how much healing there is left and how much more love there is available:

If I Had a Heart
Holy War
Genocide
Suicide
Hate and cruelty…
How can this be holy?
If I had a heart, I’d cry
Holy Earth
How can we heal you?
We cover you like a blight…
Strange birds of appetite…
If I had a heart, I’d cry.
{If I Had a Heart}

and… another song…

Love never looks for love
Love’s not puffed up
Or envious
Or touchy
Because it rejoices in the truth
Not in iniquity
Love sees like a child sees
Where as a child I saw it face to face
Now I only know it in part
Fractions in me
Of faith and hope and love
And of these great three
Love’s the greatest beauty
Love
Love
Love
{Love)

Love more.
